What is the AOW?
The Article of the Week (AOW) is designed to provide students with weekly critical reading practice. The goal of the AOW is to strengthen vocabulary and comprehension skills by activating background knowledge and using context clues.
Is it for a grade?
The AOW is homework. Each assignment is graded and put into the grade book as a practice skill.
I don’t know how to do it.
How to do an AOW is practiced in class. There is an annotated example linked above. Each student must complete all annotations. They don’t need to get every annotation correct, but they need to attempt every annotation.
If you have looked at the annotated example and given it your best shot, and still can’t do the assignment, set up a study session before it’s due!
What if I’m absent?
Articles are assigned and must be completed in Schoology. You can retrieve the assignment wherever you are and complete it when you feel better. You are still responsible for every AOW.
